RAPID RUSSIAN Vol. 1 (CD)

Rapid Russian by Berlitz Earworms

presented by Berlitz Earworms

© Marc Wickert www.knucklepit.com

I spend a great many hours each week on the road, so 18 months ago I decided to utilize my time behind the wheel as productively as possible by learning a new language – Russian.  I’ve interviewed Fedor Emelianenko through an interpreter, but my dream is to one day interview this great athlete in his native tongue.

The Berlitz Earworms learning technique is by far the most student-friendly CD system for me.  I tried other CD language products, but found them too difficult and distracting whilst driving.

There is an included phrase book one can refer to; however the secret to “Rapid Russian Vol. 1” by Earworms is that by simply listening to these essential words and phrases, they are “burned deeply into your long-term memory in next to no time.”

RANDY COUTURE XTREME TRAINING (Book)

Randy Couture Xtreme Training

The Fighter’s Ultimate Fitness Manual

with Lance Freimuth and Erich Krauss

© Marc Wickert www.knucklepit.com

This 320-page manual has been a long time coming, but well worth every minute of the wait.  If you were to only have one piece of equipment in your gym, this book would have to be it.

What I really love about Randy Couture Xtreme Training – the Fighter’s Ultimate Fitness Manual is that the book contains a lot of training advice and instruction that could have been passed down from the days of Randy Couture’s great, great grandfather when fighters and wrestlers trained in old wooden sheds or rolled in the dirt in their backyards.  Some of these moves could even be attributed to Cain and Abel’s sparring days.

There’s no ultra-modern equipment employed or any state-of-the-art wizardry – it’s all “Natural”, as you’d expect.  And there are plenty of routines you can utilize when you’re traveling where no gym is handy. Read the rest of this entry »

JACKSON’S MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (Book)

Jackson's Mixed Martial Arts - The Ground Game

THE GROUND GAME

with Greg Jackson and Kelly Crigger
(Victory Belt)

What a superb publication!  This is easily my favorite ground-game book because, unlike a number of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu manuals, Greg Jackson’s book doesn’t just involve submission holds, but also covers every imaginable aspect of ground’n’pounding.

Submission holds – such as rear naked chokes, arm bars, and kimuras – work well, particularly in the earlier stages of a bout when competitors aren’t as sweaty; however g’n’p is also a very effective means of submitting an opponent that is absent in BJJ.  And because most street fights do go to the ground, I particularly like the street-applicable aspect of this book.

Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts: The Ground Game is the sequel to Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts: The Stand Up Game, with these two books perfectly complementing one another.  Again, Greg has teamed up with US Army Lieutenant Colonel and author of Title Shot: Into the Shark Tank of Mixed Martial Arts, Kelly Crigger.
