On May 16, 2012, two of M-1 Global’s most exciting fighters will be doing battle at the Crocus City Arena in Moscow when M-1’s Lightweight Champion, Daniel Weichel (28-7), defends his title against the highly regarded Yuri Ivlev (18-7).

When Daniel ‘The Weasel’ Weichel and Yuri ‘Cable Guy’ Ivlev last went to battle together at M-1 Challenge XXI on October 28, 2010, Daniel brought the bout to an end at 2.24 into the third round when he stopped Yuri via a TKO.  Weichel has since described the match as the hardest fight of his career.

After the first Weichel vs. Ivlev , Daniel went on to defeat Magomedrasul Khasbulaev via triangle choke at M-1 Challenge XXIII, then scored a unanimous decision over Beau Baker at M-1 XXVI, before KO-ing Jose Figueroa to become M-1’s Lightweight Champion at M-1 Global’s Fedor v. Monson in November, 2011.

Weichel and Ivlev are both hard, hard men and possess outstanding stand-up, takedown and submission skills, so their title showdown at M-1 Challenge XXXII in Russia is set to be a classic fight.  Also on the card will be Weichel’s training partner, Mairbek Taisumov who faces off with Marat Gafurov.

Daniel kindly chatted with Knucklepit about his recent crowning and the upcoming M-1 Challenge.
