GRISHIN vs. GARNER, M-1 CHALLENGE XXVII
“It makes no difference to me, I was going to have to fight him anyway” – Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner.
Outspoken M-1 Heavyweight Kenny “Deuce” Garner is rarely at a loss for words. Coming off an impressive win over Pat Bennett on July 8th, Deuce had set the table for a rematch with current M-1 Challenge Heavyweight Champion Guram Gugenishvili . A significant training injury to the champion’s elbow has caused the bout to be delayed. However all is not lost, as the flamboyant ATT Port St. Lucie slugger will now face M-1 Challenge veteran and top contender Maxim Grishin for the M-1 Challenge Interim Heavyweight title. M-1 Challenge XXVII: Grishin vs Garner will air LIVE on SHOWTIME on Friday, October 14 at 11 p.m. ET/PT (Delayed on the West Coast) and feature bouts from the new 5,500 seat Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.
We recently had a chance to speak with Kenny Garner, and although there has been an 11th hour change in plans, Deuce is taking it all in stride “ It makes no difference to me who I fight, Guram , Grimace, or Grishin. The way I look at it I was going to have to fight Max after I beat Guram anyway” said Garner “ M-1 can keep lining them up, and I’ll keep knocking them down, that’s my job, it’s what I do.”
Garner freely admits he continues to look forward to the chance to avenge his loss to Guram, a fight he views as a learning experience that can only make him stronger. When asked his thoughts on the current Heavywight title holder he had this to say. “ Let Guram know that he is in my prayers, and I hope he has a quick recovery, because when we fight I want us both to be one hundred percent.”
